Arthritis Support Network launched: 2015

Arthritis Support Network Leader: Deb                   Type of Arthritis: Rheumatoid Arthritis

About this Arthritis Support Network:

Working together, we will create a welcoming warm sharing atmosphere!  I see the group as a place where especially those with little to no support system at home can come and feel heard, understood, and cared about.  I believe that the group can serve both as a point of emotional strength and as an educational group.

About:  Deb

Hi Everyone!!  I'm Deb.  I have had RA since I was 13 years old.  My background for schooling is I graduated from Mount Mary College with a double major in Dietetics and Biology.  I have been the Board Chair for the Leadership Board of the Upper Midwest Region for the Arthritis Foundation for about 2+ years and Board Member for 3+ years.  I am the Advocacy Chair and an Advocacy Ambassador for AF.  I am involved with the arthritis community.  I have had a knee replacement, wrist fusion and 2 cervical neck fusions.  I have SPAD- (Selective Polysaccharide Antibody Deficiency) and MGUS (Monoclonal Gammopathy of Undetermined Significance).

I enjoy Advocacy and am empowered by telling my story.  We all have so much to share and learn from each other.  I am honored to serve you as the co-leader of the Madison group.  Having an Arthritis Support Network in Madison will open more doors for support and knowledge.  We live in an area where this type of support group is sorely needed.

I am looking to meet others who are like Me and live this life. It is hard to find those who understand and knowing someone lives it everyday helps.

I have been diagnosed with RA just less than two months ago. It was devastating to find out that

I have an incurable decease. Luckily I found Paddison program and working towards learning

to manage RA so that I can be pain free and drug free. Would love to meet other people who deal

with similar issues locally.

I have checked the calendar and don't see any Madison RI meetups for July, August or September.

Are you planning on doing one soon?

Also, I have not seen any information about RI at the UW-Health RA clinics. How are you reaching out

to the community to build up a support group? I am willing to get involved in local community events

and share my experience since it's been positive and remarkably different from a lot of stories that I read.

Hi, I have been a member for 3 months and have not heard of any meetings. I was really looking forward to meeting others that share the same "life" as I do I have RA. Thank you in advance and have a great day!

I would like to have an informal meet-and-greet in August. Could we have a Doodle poll for the dates/times that work best for people?

Hi ladies,

We have gone through a few bumps in the past months.  It was hard to schedule any meetings between my schedule and the other co-leader.  She has now stepped down and yes....we are having another "restart"!!  I am scheduling meetings for September and October tomorrow!  Thanks for hanging in there Linda and Ev....and the rest of you!  I have lots of ideas to throw past you.  I might even have a new co-leader!

Hi! I am new to this group and come with a relatively new diagnosis of RA. I am so happy to come to this group, learn more about this arthritis, and hear how this condition has affected others.  I cannot attend the Sept Launch meeting due to a previous engagement. But, I plan to go to Columbus on Oct 12 and attend the Lunch and Learn, and the Madison-coffee time following. Hope to meet you soon. Mary Weaver

Hi I am new to this group.  I have a compression fracture in my back, Rheumatoid Arthritis for about 10 years, and now have been diagnosed with Osteoarthritis and because I have been on Prednisone, I have osteoporosis along with lumbar spinal stenosis.  Looking forward to learning new things.  Lorene Wendricks

I work, so 11:30a.m. is not in option even in Madison for me. I am not sure how many can make it.

Could we have a local, as the group says, Madison based meetup at a time when working folks

can make it? The group is so small that we could meet in a coffee shop. How about having meetups

where people could have more discussion time and meetings where you can do educational events.

I would love to share my experience with inflammatory arthritis of the last 5 months and hear what

the situation is for other people.

Hi Ev Kry,

The meeting time for October was just to take advantage of the Columbia hospital's informative session.  I agree, that time is not good for those who work.  That's why tyically I try for Sunday afternoons..... yes, the one meeting was during the Packers, but I won't do that again..Haha!  I'm scheduling our next meeting for Nov. 20th 1-3.  My hope is to get a group together so we can discuss a preferred time, as well as places that folks want to go to!  All of your suggestions are everything I've thought of but I'm trying to get us together to talk about those things.  I will also start a discussion on the facebook page https://www.facebook.com/ArthritisIntrospective.Madison.WI/

Thank you for your interest and I'd love to have you part of the group!!

I'm unsure how to go about this but I am in need of some help in either figuring out a new way to talk to my rheumy or to find a new one. There is a lot of detail to this so I'm unsure if this should be put in a comment or private message to someone.

Looking for support with an odd situation
