About this Live Yes! Connect Group:
My vision is to grow an arthritis 'village'- one that is supportive & respectful with members who are participating, listening and learning.
Hello. My name is Diana. I have spent my life experiencing many changes and challenges that have made me stronger, wiser and well prepared to be your facilitator in the Murfreesboro area.
I've been on my RA journey for 25 years & have developed numerous other autoimmune conditions along the way. As a result and through tons of internet research, I've learned a great deal about autoimmune conditions. I began my journey with rheumatoid arthritis in 1993, in my early 40's, during a period of extreme stress in my personal life. But like the caterpillar that goes through fast growth and change, a butterfly finally emerges, stronger and much more resilient than its original form.
A little bit about me-I've been an apprentice dancer for a civic ballet company, middle school science & math teacher at the Demonstration School (now the University School on Vanderbilt campus), in Nashville. Additionally, I’m experienced in performing instructional design, presenting training, facilitating groups, developing and participating in teams, consulting on performance issues with business leaders & lastly consulting for the needs of people with disabilities in Chicago as part of Mayor Daley’s program, disabilityWorks. These experiences combined will help me be successful as the group’s leader, unless of course you want dance lessons during a meeting. That won't work for me anymore and probably not for you either! So, I’ll put that aside. Oh, and I'm the oldest of 5 girls, so I developed leadership skills very early! Lol (lots of laughs).
Since retiring and moving back to the Nashville area in 2008, I have been searching for a volunteer position that would meet my skills, experience and physical limitations. I am anxious to begin knowing that I will be able to make a difference in the lives of others by what I have learned along the way in my journey.
Lately, I been envisioning how grand it will be to chat with others who understand far more than those who do not have our daily challenges. To know that I am heard without being fearful that the listener will not ‘get it’ and assume I am a complainer! And, to be able to develop friendships based on that shared understanding of daily struggles and limitations. I am so ready!
We won't be sitting in a circle bemoaning our conditions like many support groups. As a group, with the heart of a team, I look forward to opportunities to share tips of care with each other, to learn from others & presenters, to go to community outings, shows, restaurants or other inexpensive activities like a picnic, movies on the lawn, fireworks. How about as a rheumatologist presenting a topic of interest, meditation class or a day trip? All with the thought of our safety and conditions in mind so that we all can enjoy. Come with your thoughts about the kind of activities you would like for us to share. I'll be looking for your suggestions and always your input.
Remember, what you put into this support group will determine what you and all of us can get out of it. So, get involved and come prepared to have fun! Please spread the word to others with arthritis and rheumatoid conditions to join us as well.
Keep learning & living it up!
