Arthritis Support Network Leader: Angie Type of Arthritis: Rheumatoid Arthritis, Raynauds, and Fibromyalgia
About this Arthritis Support Network:
My vision this this support network is to give people living with arthritis in the area a safe place to discuss their conditions and find ways to ease some of the difficulty associated with the various types of arthritis.
I am very excited to join the Arthritis Foundation as a support group leader. I had hope for a long time that an opportunity like itself would present itself to this community. Once I found out more about this group I knew I had to bring it to fruition. I hope that together we will be able to help those in Bemidji and the surrounding communities that are dealing with various types of Arthritis. I currently live with Rheumatoid Arthritis (DX at 28), Fibromyalgia (DX at 23), and Raynaud’s (Dx within the past 3 years). I have personally hoped for a group of people that I could talk to and find out what works for others, and I am not going to lie- sometimes a brief venting session with understanding individuals is just what is needed.
I have worked most of my career in the management field. I have managed businesses ranging from nonprofit to bio pharmaceutical. Most recently, I went back to school and received my doctorate of business administration in healthcare management. I now have the most amazing job that I could ask for as a college professor. I teach at Bemidji State University- Go Beavers! Prior to this position I had to cut down to half-time as my disease activity was very high. I try to stay as positive as possible and hope to help others learn to do the same. I also hope to learn some tips and tricks from others.
I love dogs and have 3 rescue hounds right now. They are a big portion of my therapy and sanity. I recently found out that I have been through all of the biologics and now must go back to one that worked for a short period of time. We are just trying to slow the progression and damage at this time. I am 38 years old and was not quite ready for that. We are never ready for these diseases and what they bring, but we are ready to fight back and do the best we can! I look forward to working with you and being your teammate on this new adventure.
I want to lead an Arthritis Support Network because currently there are not any arthritis support groups in this area. There is however a high rate of arthritis in this area. It would be wonderful to give community members a place to learn more about arthritis and share tips to overcome the obstacles.
