About this Arthritis Support Network:
Our vision for the San Fernando Arthritis Support Network is to have an open forum for support, education, social interaction, and of course fun!
Hello, I'm Valerie and my Arthritis journey started over 10 years ago at the age of 24. The following year I lost my health insurance and without the proper knowledge, support, and medical supervision, my body was aggressively attacked by this disease for 8 years. In 2011 I moved to Los Angeles and gained health insurance through my job and I also found the West Los Angeles Arthritis Support Network. With my new doctors and by attending the arthritis support group meetings and the National Gathering Conference, I learned what Rheumatoid Disease is and what it is to live with a chronic condition.
The support and friendships I have made through the Arthritis Support Network have been invaluable to my overall health and well-being. I've been living in Los Angeles for over 3 years, and I now reside in Sherman Oaks. Being a small town gal in a big city I love to meet new people and make lasting friendships. I hope to see you soon at our next meet-up!
I’m happy to join Valerie as co-leader of the San Fernando Valley Arthritis Support Network.
My symptoms of Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalgia began in 2006. It wasn’t until 2009 before I was diagnosed and first heard of these conditions. I discovered the Arthritis Support Network in 2012 at the Los Angeles Arthritis Foundation Walk for a Cure. It was amazing to find a group of people who understood what I was going through and helped to explain what I didn't completely understand.
Until I made the decision to medically retire in 2012, I spent my entire career inside the entertainment industry. During my 17 years at NBCUniversal, I wrote articles for the company’s affinity group web sites and helped launch NBCUniversal's "Abilities Network". In addition I was named volunteer of the year for my leadership in multiple company sponsored community events.
Since my diagnosis I have earmarked time to volunteer with both the Arthritis Support Network and the Arthritis Foundation through advocacy, committee membership and participation at annual walks and conferences. I am happy I have now chosen to become an Arthritis Support Network Leader. This opportunity will give me the chance to share with others what I have already experienced within this wonderful organization.
